So Now They Want To Talk

Now this is interesting.

On the heels of the made-for-prime-time interview of Iran's president by Mike Wallace, the rather numbing end to the Israeli/Hezbollah war, the Hezbollah claims of victory, the Syrian claims that the Western plan for the Middle East was dead, the Iranian praise of Hezbollah and God and Lebanon, an Iranian and Hezbollah repair network in southern Lebanon that would rival FEMA (no, better than FEMA), and the Western uncertainty on the plan to even form a peacekeeping force, let alone disarm anybody...now Iran says it's ready to discuss stopping Uranium enrichment.

Iran is ready to discuss the suspension of its uranium enrichment programme as demanded by Western powers, the country's foreign minister has said.

Manouchehr Mottaki told a news conference that Iran was ready to talk but still regarded any suspension of its programme as "illogical".

A package of incentives has been offered to Iran by six world powers in return for a halt to its programme.

Tehran has said it will respond to the offer by 22 August.

"We are ready to discuss all the issues, including the suspension. There is no logic behind the suspension of Iran's activities. We are ready to explain this to them," Mr Mottaki said.

What ever happened to all the "we will never give up our sovereign rights to enrich" blustering?

Obviously they could just be blowing smoke, attempting to pull a North Korea on us - agree to anything and then just go full steam ahead with bombmaking behind the scenes. But you'd think that after their crowing the other day the nuclear enrichment issue would be a non-starter with them.

Makes us wonder, if Iran is a bit more nervous than they appear right now (as Israel did destroy over half of Hezbollah's main fighting force), or perhaps they're really just attempting to distract us while they win the reconstruction peace in Lebanon.
