Oh thank God...the actors are here.
Apparently Ben Affleck needs to revitalize his film career, seeing as how he's essentially destroyed his and nearly everyone else's he's been associated with (Matt Damon has sort of escaped with Bourne, but other than that...), and so he appears to be taking the tried and true method of going moonbat on national television.
In an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, Mr. Affleck was caught floating the urban version of "get a rope" during the discussion about the President's involvement in declassifying portions of the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate for dissemination to journalists in order to correct the record on pre-war intelligence. (via Newsbusters)
Bill Sammon, Washington Examiner: “A lot of critics are conflating the two and are saying that because Bush disclosed this piece of information, they're implying that Bush leaked the name.”
Ben Affleck: “He probably also leaked the name. There's just no proof of that.”
Sammon: “Even the prosecutor, even Fitzgerald is saying Bush didn't leak the name. So let's be clear, Bush didn't leak Valerie Plame's name -- not that we know of.”
Affleck: “Because if he did, you can be hung for that! That's treason!”
Bill Maher: “That is treason.”
Affleck: “You could be killed. That's not a joking around Tom DeLay 'I'll do a year, I bribed the state officials with corporate money.' That's like they shoot you in the battlefield for doing that. Don't you think we should find out who leaked that name?”
I suppose Mr. Affleck is not familiar with the fact that no crimes have been proven or indictments issued in response to the question of who leaked Valerie Plame's name. Indeed, the prosecutor Fitzgerald is fighting with Libby's lawyers (in a trial about he said/she said, not covert agents) to keep information suppressed. And he still has not answered the most basic question, about whether or not Valerie Plame was covert at that time. The CIA did not stop Robert Novak from publishing his article - as he stated they gave (paraphrasing) a "weak resistance".
Does this sound like high crimes to you?
No. Yet this is the fantasy world the left lives in. They have gone completely over the edge with Bush hatred. Everybody has some nefarious motive, everybody is lying, or scheming, or going to war for a corporation, or exposing secret agents to destroy and dissuade all criticism.
And in contrast, all of the available evidence, from reporters and from the investigation are revealing a story much more simple in nature. And, as with this latest hysteria, according to the Wall Street Journal, Valerie Plame's name is not even in the declassified portions 2002 NIE.
Nor, for that matter, is that what Mr. Libby is charged with. Ms. Plame's name doesn't even appear in the sections of the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction that were later declassified. (Mr. Fitzgerald refuses to disclose whether Ms. Plame was a covert agent.)
So Mr. Affleck, instead of pounding the table and calling for some wild west "justice", might it not be prudent to first figure out if a crime was even committed?
